Tintwistle Cricket Club - The Jim Ralph Cup
James Ralph Jnr - born 1935.
Cricket career 1949 - 1986.
Right hand bat, occasional wicket keeper, right arm medium.
Yet another New Roader! Jim was one of the original Junior
players when the Glossop & District League formed their Junior League in 1949.
He was selected to play for the Junior League X1 in 1950. A forceful right hand
bat who could rip to pieces any attack on his day. Fielding at point or gully, his fielding during the fifties and sixties, for the 1st X1 was legendary. Any batsmen hitting the ball in the air
in Jim’s direction was usually seen walking back to the pavilion. Jim has supported
the cricket club all his life both on and off the field. He donated the Jim Ralph
Cup to the club in 1976 for the Most Promising Junior. Throughout his sporting life, Jims skills were not just on the cricket field. He played for many seasons in Tintwistle
Villa’s half back line during the fifties and sixties. Jims Grandfather Isaac
Ralph,
was an original junior member of the club. In 1890 playing for “Tintwistle
Unicorns”. Jims father, James Snr and Uncle Samuel were also useful cricketers
before and shortly after the First World War.
